Love, love, LOVE the fact that Jack and Freddie keep forgetting that they're playing cards with a police lieutenant - it makes their scrambling for cover stories so much more fun than if they're just trying to hide from Trixie. I also have to love the fact that the end of the hand didn't finish like I thought it would. I fully expected one of the players to walk away with everything, but this... this... Kudos, Gregg! | | | 02-18-2011 | #2 | | Agent Ninety-Three-One WorldsAway is offline Join Date: Feb 2010 Posts: 318 | From the 20 Questions with Chris Mott topic: | Quote: | | | | | For as long as I have been listening to Blackjack Justice, I have thought that it would be cool to see (hear) a scene with Jack, Trixie, Sabien and Freddy playing poker (I just think that it would be comedy gold), has there ever been a scene that you have envisioned that has yet to be written? | | | | | As soon as I started listening, I remembered that post. Thank you Bryan for inspiring an amazing episode! (or, at least, I assume Gregg got the idea from this...) | | | 02-18-2011 | #3 | | Audiofile Undrave is offline Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Quebec, Canada Posts: 1,303 | Alf and Theo at the same table oh my... I still find it cute how Freddy is on such friendly term with Sabien and (especially) Nelson no one can stay mad at the little guy for ever | | | 02-18-2011 | #4 | | Agent Ninety-Three-One WorldsAway is offline Join Date: Feb 2010 Posts: 318 | Speaking of Nelson: "Leave my pet ulcer out of this! He'd have us playing Crazy Eights all night!" When I get around to updating Nelson's wiki page, one of his aliases will be "Sabien's Pet Ulcer". | | | 02-18-2011 | #5 | | Audiofile Lothar Tuppan is offline Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: San Francisco Bay Area Posts: 1,472 | Another wonderful and hillarious episode. Wait... two light-hearted episodes... this doesn't mean someone's going to die in a couple weeks does it? | | | 02-19-2011 | #6 | | Audio Newbie Kram is offline Join Date: Feb 2011 Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada Posts: 8 | Freddy’s narration was the highlight of this episode for me. His narration music fit his personality surprisingly well. The unexpectedness of it made it very amusing, but I do think Freddy would prefer Debussy, over Trixie and Jack’s jazzy themes. It sounds a little gentler. I also loved Freddy's improvised “rescue” by Alice. I think it shows that he is actually pretty fond of her temper. Sure, she can be hard on him, but he knows she’d be harder on anyone else who threatened him. It’s been a great season! I’d say the ratio of comedic to serious episodes has been a little higher this time. I think the season needed a bit more light-heartedness, to balance out the grimness of “The Albatross”. | | | 02-19-2011 | #7 | | Agent Ninety-Three-One WorldsAway is offline Join Date: Feb 2010 Posts: 318 | | Quote: | | | | | I also loved Freddy's improvised “rescue” by Alice. I truly loved how Pete slowly became more Pirate as Freddie's bit went on, and: "I am overcome with how I have treated you gentleman. I have been a first class heel. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll ease my pain by being careless with matches!" | Quote: | | | | | Freddy’s narration was the highlight of this episode for me. There's more Hoveryboy to be had on the Hoverboy Archives page on YouTube. | | | 02-19-2011 | #10 | | Audio Newbie BrandTim is offline Join Date: Oct 2008 Posts: 8 | I really liked how the conclusion to the story within the frame was revealed to the audience by a character not even part of that story! I don't think I've ever seen a frame story handled that way before. Kudos, Gregg. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | | All times are GMT -5.
