Default More advice please - iTunes

Hello,

I was wondering if any of you clever people would be able to tell me if it is worth me setting up a podcast on iTunes - I was browsing through a website recently and it said this:

How do I subscribe to a podcast?

To subscribe to a podcast you need to download a podcast player such as iTunes, Doppler or Juice.

iTunes

Click the URL below and you will be taken to the shortstoryradio.com podcast on iTunes, where you can listen to our latest stories and subscribe to receive future podcasts:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/M...t?id=267718576

Which looks interesting and perhaps valuable...

I tunes is the largest source of listeners since they were the first major company to support podcasts. So a big yes to submitting there, also I suggest submitting to Podcastpickle.com, Podcastalley.com and the Zune marketplace (not sure how to submit to them.. hard to find).

those are just a few of the podcast directories. but well worth it, you will see an increase in your audience.

Podcast411 is one of the largest directories of... podcast directories. They're a good place to submit to multiple directories if you really want to reach just about everyone.

Hi there,

Thanks. I don't have a clue how I'd go about getting an iTunes page like they have but I'll have a look and see if I can. Thanks for the advice.

Happy Listening!

Well, to be honest it's about time. The current top ten uk drama podcasting includes most of the output of BBC7 (and rightly so but still slightly depressing) and more interestingly, the musings of Paul Daniels (ORLY? YARLY!) More power to the man that's what I say. Still, I think the UK can be better representing ourselves for those boys and girls at Apple.

OK speaking xml, itunes likes a special flavour of xml which although similar to the standard podcasting flavour works with the itunes listing system to give the audience more information regarding your podcast.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/po...techspecs.html

They have a couple of extra tags that help itumes identify content, fortunately as they've labelled them itunes specific most other podsubscription software disregards these tags so compatability shouldn't be a problem. So you can have one detailed feed file that will cover all the different software that may be used to subscribe to your work. The apple website is an OK place to start if a little bit technical. Also if you wish to check your feed to make sure that there aren't any coding problems with it I personally found this site quite useful.

http://www.feedvalidator.org/

It just checks through and gives you a heads up if there are any programming errors. It was very useful to me when I started out.

Working my way through your back catalogue by the way. Your a clever bunch aren't you?

I'm sure if you google something along the lines of "iTunes Podcasting", help, tutorial"

You will find loads of sites that give advice.

These icons are cool (had to use one)

Hey if you want to copy mine, leave the headers and titles and just rewrite the content then that's cool. I can rip you off a copy and e-mail it to you.

Oooo evil monkey....
