Just unpacked my birthday present, and I'm very impressed. This unit from Aluratek works with WIFI like a regular radio. I live in a very remote town, and we only get about five signals up here, so this thing is a real Godsend. 11,000 stations may be a bit much, but get this: there is a radio drama category with 18 channels including BBC 7. Oh, and the kicker? I wrote the head of the directory, and they'll be adding Sound Stages later this week. Podcasting is still king, but broadcast just won't go away.

I have a Grace Digital Radio and I love that thing... for about $120 and no monthly subscriptions, you can listen to virtually any radio station in the world, it seems like (I think they practically all stream online at this point).

In addition to listening to radio stations I like from cities I no longer live in, there are a number of OTR stations available for different genres. Many of these devices can also work as media servers, so we can listen to the podcast shows, OTR and audio dramas I've collected as well. It looks a little more modern than your golden-era radio, but creates much the same effect for its listeners.
