Chatterbox Audio Theater, Memphis's only web-based theater company, is proud to announce the release of two original shows: "King Me" and "The Separate Self." Written and directed by Chatterbox Executive Director Robert Arnold and utilizing exceptional Memphis talent, these productions are now freely available through Chatterbox's website, www.chatterboxtheater.org
"King Me" features Jason Spitzer and Michael Towle as two amateur con men whose plans fall apart over a game of checkers. "The Separate Self," which features Lauren Rachel and Robert Arnold, is based on the true story of a man who comes to believe he possesses psychic powers -- powers that he can only activate by putting himself in harm's way. Both shows were produced by James Antoine and feature original music composed by Matthew Crewse.
After the ambitious "Dead and Gone" and a two-hour live Halloween Show, these productions represent a more concise, intimate style of audio theater. "I love doing big shows," says Arnold, "but I also love putting together these short, intense productions. It's like writing a short story versus writing a novel. Chatterbox gives us the opportunity to do both, and I think it's important to offer innovative, high-quality audio theater that can be enjoyed in 15 or 20 minutes."
The Chatterbox website features behind-the-scenes photos of each show's creation, as well as original artwork for each production.
Founded in 2007, Chatterbox Audio Theater utilizes live performances and manual sound effects to create contemporary audio works that are freely available for streaming and download. Chatterbox's entire catalogue -- now totaling 35 shows -- is available online at www.chatterboxtheater.org
