PLEASE PLEASE consider giving them names that will alphabetize in an MP3 player! They don't even have indicators that make them easily manually sortable - just a string of numbers! ARRRGGGGHHH! This is another case of "don't make it hard for the listeners - if you want to have any listeners!" And this is definitely a show that is worth listening to. If it wasn't really good, well-made, and intriguing I would have already given up. Even just from this part so far, I'm pegging it for something I want to keep up with. I've just gone through all the promos, and hit some of them out of order, since some fo them actually have an order, but that's how they arranged themselves in my player, and now I can't tell which ones I've listened to and which not, since they all have strings of numbers for names and I'm squinting at them trying to count them down and match them up ... ...and I go blind in a puddle of misery. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. It sounds like your player is reading the code podomatic.com is giving each show. When we record each show, we follow a strict naming convention that is supposed to make it easier. For whatever reason, podomatic renames the files we upload to that gibberish you see. I can't change it. It shows the text title on iTunes and on most other players, but for some reason, it shows up weird in for some subscribers. I TOTALLY agree with the risk of making it hard for the listeners to figure out. We are going to keep the promos up until the third episode airs on the 25th, then pull everything except Season Zero shows. That will help a little until we decide on a new home that doesn't make it harder for us to reach new listeners than it should be. And thank you for the kind words about the show. I hope you'll stick around a little longer for the Halloween and Christmas episodes. | | | | 09-01-2009 | #6 | | Audio Fan 3015_North is offline Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 30 | | Quote: | | | | | Love the show as well! And yeah, I think renaming files is really the only way around the Podomatic "glitch" except maybe downloading them directly from the podomatic site and changing the savename at the offset. But listeners shouldn't have to do that. | | | 09-01-2009 | #7 | | 1-Woman Butt-Kicking Army JulieH is offline Join Date: May 2008 Posts: 3,489 | I just downloaded them directly at the download links. That really sucks that it works so poorly. I didn't realize it was doing that until I had downloaded EVERYTHING off the site - and was faced with a big list of gibberish. Seems like podomatic is something to be avoided, then. Anyone joining the show later, who doesn't know they'll have to rename everything (which is incredibly irritating, even if you know you have to do it) is going to think twice. I'm not meaning to be a pain in the ass here, but - I hate to see somethign this promising have any problems that could make it less likely to get heard. __________________ --Julie Hoverson 19 Nocturne Boulevard ...and the Deadeye Kid ......and Fatal Girl .........and Tone Didactic ............and Bingo the Birthday Clown | | | | | | 09-01-2009 | #8 | | Audio Fan 3015_North is offline Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 30 | | Quote: | | | | | I just downloaded them directly at the download links. Feedback is never a pain in the ass. It's irritating to know that all the work that gets put into a show can be undone by something as relatively trivial as a file name. Another show that I'm on, The Chronic Rift, just made the move to a new home. Depending on how they like it, we may move the show there. Still, we'd love to know what you like about the show that makes it worth keeping up with. Thanks for listening, Jay | | | | 09-01-2009 | #9 | | 1-Woman Butt-Kicking Army JulieH is offline Join Date: May 2008 Posts: 3,489 | | Quote: | | | | | Still, we'd love to know what you like about the show that makes it worth keeping up with. Thanks for listening, Jay | | | | | I've sent feedback on your site, but some of what really like include stuff like - I LOVE the series of teasers, each introducing a new character or group of characters. They set stuff up so perfectly, and get you waiting to hear from that person again. A nice way of bringing them in one at a time. And the Home & Garden thing is beautiful. Don't even know where it's going yet, but i love the idea that the whole series centers around it. I also love the jackasses with the paintball gun. Can't wait til they die. __________________ --Julie Hoverson 19 Nocturne Boulevard ...and the Deadeye Kid ......and Fatal Girl .........and Tone Didactic ............and Bingo the Birthday Clown | | | 09-01-2009 | #10 | | Audiofile frankenstein1887 is offline Join Date: Oct 2008 Posts: 186 | Just wanted to add I really enjoyed the show, lots of promise. I also renamed everything as I downloaded the shows. I expect to do this with each new show, but it is nice when I don't have the need. Loved the semi rural area details. A great start. Posted some notices around about your fine show. Looking foward to the Halloween show! __________________ Mama delivered me herself. She took me from between her legs, bloody little mess.
