Star Trek: Grissom is a fan-produced cooperative audio series and novel adventure lead by Star Trek Grissom Productions and Hidden Frontier Productions, with the participation of cast and crew from two other 23rd century-based Star Trek productions, U.S.S. Hathaway, and Starship Lexington. The story, to be told in a written series of 13 chapters, and converted to 6 audio episodes, recounts the final missions of the Federation vessel U.S.S. Grissom, which was destroyed as it carried out its final mission above the Genesis Planet, as depicted in the film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Although the Grissom's story ends in this tragedy, until now, all the excitement, intrigue, and action leading up to this ill-fated Genesis Planet mission has not been told... until now.

Yes, although we do know what happens (they're doooomed) the idea was to tell the story that didn't make it to the screen.

The stories are actually prose and are available on the grissom website. They're then being adapted for audio.

I have the files for Episode 2 on my machine now fresh from Germany and we're approx 3 weeks until it's released.
