Ghosts, Henrik Ibsen's tragic tale of secrets and lies, opens today at the
McCroskey Memorial Internet Playhouse and on
iTunes. The play tells the story of how lies, told in the name of dead ideals, bring the Alving family to ruin, while at the same time satirizing the outdated morals and ethical standards of its era.
Ghosts shocked the world when it opened in Chicago in 1882. Despite the passage of the years its satire has kept its edge, and its tragedy retains its power.
