I loved it from the second I heard it. It's everything a good sleuth show should be. My iPod has every episode of BJJ and Red Panda eternally burned into its memory... I hope! Thanks to the creators for such an outstanding show. Personally, I was always a Gerald Mohr in Marlowe guy, though Howard Duff's Sam Spade was pretty outstanding too. Actually, you can really tell that in between writing seasons one and two I listened to a complete run of Richard Diamond and Nero Wolfe. Jack relaxed a little, got less grim... even smiled at a pretty girl once in a while (not to mention the sudden presence in the office of a red leather chair, which I hope Rex Stout doesn't mind that I swiped from Wolfe's brownstone) | | | | BJJ vs. Wolfe | | 01-12-2008 | #3 | | Krale krale is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Boyne City, MI Posts: 662 | BJJ vs. Wolfe Gregg, while you were swiping the red leather chair, did you think to swipe a few more lost episodes of Nero Wolfe? all I've ever been able to find is 18 of them. | | | 01-12-2008 | #4 | | Audiofile Gregg is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 1,885 | K, You mean the 50-51 run with Sidney Greenstreet in the role? I'm pretty sure I have more like 25 of those. We should compare lists off-site, and I can get you those other 7. The Internet Archive not only has all 25 Nero Wolfe episodes, but collections of pretty much any other OTR show you can name! Since they're all public domain, they're freely available for anyone who wants them! Rob | | | 01-12-2008 | #6 | | Audiofile Gregg is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 1,885 | It's true, Rob. And I love 'em for it. Though there is a good deal of material that makes it to the Internet Archive that is misdated, mislabeled or just not what it thinks it is. And some is in pretty lousy encodes. But I've still found many fills there for my OTR files. But then I always get distracted and run to play with the old '78s. Man there is some freaky stuff in there! | | | 01-14-2008 | #7 | | Audio Newbie abigfan is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 23 | I've got a subscription to RUSC.com. I never take a trip without my iPod and a bunch of great OTR. Well, except that now I never take a trip without Black Jack Justice and The Red Panda. Not that I don't like the Red Panda...*runs in fear of the Flying Squirrel attack* | | | 07-13-2008 | #9 | | Audio Fan planish is offline Join Date: May 2008 Posts: 64 | For the full OTR experience, ya know whatcha' need? An Old Radio Like these, from my collection: Northern Electric "Baby Champ" model 5002 (Made in Montreal, model year 1946-47) RCA Victor A-20 "Globetrotter" (made in 1940, Montreal) Stromberg-Carlson 561 (1947, Toronto) Many of the old tube radios from late '40s and throughout the '50s had an RCA-type input jack on the back, for plugging in turntables. They also work with iPods, if you have the appropriate stereo-mono and mini-phone plug to RCA adaptors. That's how I listened to nearly all of the Dimension X and Planet Man episodes, from archive.org. Or maybe I used a portable CD player. Whatever. Either one works. | | | 07-16-2008 | #10 | | Audiofile Undrave is offline Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Quebec, Canada Posts: 1,303 | | Quote: | | | | | For the full OTR experience, ya know whatcha' need?
