The Post-Meridian Radio Players are putting on their 3rd annual Halloween 'Staged-Radio Thrillogy' October 29th - November 1st in the Boston area.
Tomes of Terror III will feature live performances of:
- "The Baby Snooks Show" — In Philip Rapp's 1946 Halloween episode of the Golden Age comedy that originally starred Fanny Brice, an evening of trick-or-treating turns into a hilarious night of disasters, as Daddy tries to one-up the father of Snooks' friend, Roger. Of course, things never go as smoothly as Daddy plans, and events escalate into an all-out prank war! Featuring local personality Tom Champion, in the role of Daddy and Kristen Bays of Pendant Productions as the precocious Snooks!
- "Reynardine" — An original work, adapted by local writer/director Renée Johnson from a story based on the traditional English folk song, "The Mountains High". Set in 19th century Exmoor, England, this tale tells of a mysterious young man who is much more than he appears, and of a prophecy warning that a terrible fate will come to pass if the village men kill a fox during during the year's Hunt. Accompanied by live musicians playing traditional folk instruments.
- "The Tell-Tale Heart" — In Poe's terrifying tale, adapted for CBC Radio's terrifying Nightfall series by the late Len Peterson, a man's carefully-planned, cold-blooded killing of a prominent farmer in a quiet rural community goes unnoticed by even the police, until the evidence itself comes back to haunt him. Directed by Second Shift voice-actor Ari Herbstman and featring Second Shift's Julia Lunetta (Arkahn) as Old Widow Whetherby. Original music by Andrew Hicks.
The Post-Meridian Radio Players' live shows feature local actors, a team of artists making sound effects with everyday (and not-so-everyday) objects, atmospheric digital audio effects, live musical accompaniment and a creepy, enigmatic host called The Librarian (aka
Second Shift extra, Renni Boy).
Tomes of Terror III will be performed Wednesday through Saturday, October 29th through November 1st, @ 7:30 PM, at the Unity Church of God, 6 William Street, Somerville, MA. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors.
