I still prefer creating them myself. It is the only fun thing about producing audio drama (well at least for me) Mixing I abhore, and I always hate my writing, but there is something about sitting around banging with swords for an hour that is a good lot of fun!
I'm the total opposite. I love the writing and mixing, but I'm happy to let someone else make the sound effects. I just never seem to be able to get them to sound "right" to my ear, so I'd rather buy them or play with ones others have made.
Everyone is in this for a different reason I suppose it works out well when you can slot people into each other that work well as a team in that way. If we all liked doing the same thing that would be a problem, wouldn't it? Imagine all writers and no mixers or all mixers and no sound engineers. Now if only we had more actors...
