I actually served in the US Navy for 5 years, and had orders to to the Constitution <but decided to get out and pursue a career in graphic art, possibly not the best econimic decision of my life-LOL> but in any event, I did tour the ship while debating on whether to take the orders, and it is a fantasic piece of history and am looking forward to hearing the pod! | | | 06-03-2008 | #4 | | Imagination Lane Audio alexachipman is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Petaluma, CA & Harlech, UK Posts: 1,748 | Lovely I'm still trying to decide whether or not to listen. I'm a maritime historian of that period and I really don't want to get angry at it for any inaccuracies. But I really want to listen. Augh the pressure... *finger sits over play button* I've been on the ship as well, my first time I was only six years old as a matter of fact. | | | 06-03-2008 | #5 | | Colonial Radio Theatre Jerry Robbins is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Boston MA Posts: 279 | | Quote: | | | | | Lovely I'm still trying to decide whether or not to listen. Constitution Museum, as well as the then Captain of Old Ironsides, who I was able to have dinner with at an Officers Mess one evening. I also had access to the journals. I feel pretty comfortable with the accuracy - so hope you enjoy it. | | | 06-03-2008 | #6 | | Moderator Jack J Ward is offline Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia Posts: 1,916 | | Quote: | | | | | Take a chance I did my research; I am a student of the 18th Century (not too far removed from 1812), and the final production was approved by the historian at the U.S.S. "Unfurl the sails" as a command? lol Although my main emphasis is the Northwest Coastal trade 1785 - 1805. Jerry Robbins: Thanks for the heads up on the Constitution approving it. I feel safe listening now *sigh of relief*. I have a museum quality replica model of her custom created as well as large painting and hull design. Hmm I should dig out the picture of me aboard that first time. I barely remember that age. I must have photographs on board every historical sailing vessel ever built right from the time I was born. My family is obsessed.
